Liver
TCM clock-1-3am
Whenever there are liver issues I always think of a couple of things initially…iron dysfunction and mineral imbalance. Then I begin to examine the Constitution of the individual and where and what fits to their energetic state.
The Liver is the Yin organ paired with the Gallbladder which is the Yang. They are both considered a part of the Wood element.
It is one of the largest organs in the body and considered one of the top advisors of the body. It has a very intimate relationship with the heart and is considered the right hand to the Heart. The Liver is responsible for the smooth flow of blood and Qi in the body. It filters, goes through a detoxification process, stores blood and regulates the volume of blood. It is in control of the sinews and tone and health of the muscles. When considering the liver we look to the eyes and nails. Eyes are the sensory organ of the liver and tendons are the tissue of the liver. The liver joins the sour taste when it is requiring some support. ( do you crave sour taste?).
The Emotion of the liver is anger. When the Liver is feeling overburden, you may find that you are experiencing anger more often, more intensely, deeply. It is a nice reminder to ask yourself-are you easily irritated, hard to unwind after getting geared up, get angry easily? The liver is a planning organ, it likes to oversea our path in our lives. It rises in the Spring to bring about new emotions, new ideas and flow of life. In the spring, It is nice to bring that energy up and out of the body. It is said to generate anger temporarily as a mechanism to clear and move things out. If supported in the right way, you will be left with energy that has transformed into optimism, wisdom and general wellbeing and balanced state. When the liver is cleared, you will see a reliable sense of self and feelings that are predictable.
The liver is easily influenced so be mindful of your repression of emotions. In order to prevent being stuck, stay in the moment and recognize that any emotion is able to move up and out and needs to encouraged to do so. If it stays stuck or you feel like it is controlling the day or week, you will be more susceptible to illness and disease due to this disharmony. The rise of the Qi in a rapid state can be linked to headaches, ringing in the ears or High blood pressure. In the opposite scenario, If you find you are slow to anger and it is left brewing for a long time, it can cause issues in the stomach region-abdominal distention, digestive issues etc. Keep in mind not to eat when you are dealing with an emotion that has not been resolved. This also goes with who you choose to eat with. Eating with those who are not in your frequency, who you don’t get a static energy from or those who provide general unease, will do the same to the liver and the digestion of the body. We have the choice who we break bread with.

Gallbladder
TCM clock -11pm-1am
The Gallbladder is the Yang organ paired with the Yin of the liver. Together they are in the Wood element.
The job of the gallbladder is to absorb any excesses of the liver. It helps with digestion and its flow, sinews and tendons and body flexibility. They regulate Blood, digestion and emotion. Both the liver and Gallbladder use each other to make sound decisions and judgments. This is based on the liver’s vision. When thinking about the Gallbladder we consider such things as decision making, options, and judgement. This is a good time to ask ourselves, are we procrastinating? Are we able to make a decision?. We also consider that the Gallbladder keeps our life moving forward and gives us the courage to do so. The Gallbladder also helps us rule sleep between the deep hours of 11pm and 1am. This is our deepest restorative period. If you are having struggles during this time or waking up and unable to fall back to sleep it may be this organ causing you some unrest. A weak gallbladder may show it self with timidness, indecisiveness, or being discouraged easily or often. If you find yourself or someone you know having the opposite side through, this may also indicate some imbalance in the gallbladder. The opposite may present itself as imbalanced ego, and promotion of self that does not seem to fit the current state. In either case, it may be a good time to sit with your send of being and examine how best to support your body.
